In Wurster Nordseeküste near Cuxhaven, northern Germany, a 46-year-old father is suspected of attempting to incite his 17-year-old son to kill his 19-year-old sister. According to authorities, the motive was the protection of so-called family honor.

The son refused and immediately contacted the police. The father was arrested and is in pre-trial detention for attempted incitement to murder.

Investigations show that there had been previous incidents of domestic violence in the family. The police had previously removed the father from the home.

What is an honour killing?
